From Mission Trip to Mission Field

Our Story: Built on Christ’s Love and a Calling to Serve

In 1999, co-founder Steve Hari and his 17-year-old son, Tyler, participated in a short-term mission trip to Northern Haiti. That single step of faith became the catalyst for God to transform countless lives—including their own. Fueled by God’s grace and a desire to share His love with all people, the Hari family returned to Haiti in 2001. Over the years, their connection to the community of Pillatre deepened as they witnessed both the immense challenges and the unwavering faith of the Haitian people. By 2010, Welcome Home Haiti was born, and in 2017, Steve and his wife Shelley answered God’s call to move to Haiti full-time, dedicating their lives to this ministry.

God’s Plan: Building More Than Homes

While the local church, medical clinic, and school in Pillatre were meeting spiritual, medical, and educational needs, many families still returned to unsafe houses made of sticks and mud. The need for secure, sanitary, and lasting homes became clear.

In 2010, Welcome Home Haiti became a 501(c)(3) ministry with a simple goal: to build one home per year for a family in need. But God’s vision was so much greater. Today, by His blessing, we are building four homes per month—48 homes every year!

Each home represents more than just walls; it’s a foundation for stability, dignity, and hope. Through Christ-centered love and service, we’re not just constructing houses; we’re creating homes and fostering community.

Empowering Through Employment

At the heart of Welcome Home Haiti’s mission is a commitment to empowering the local community. Our block production business provides sustainable employment for Haitian men and women, equipping them with jobs that support their families and strengthen their community.

Every home we build begins with these blocks—crafted by skilled hands and a deep sense of purpose. Together, we’re building homes, livelihoods, and a brighter future for generations to come.
